The plot of the play revolves around a woman named Sophie. She lives on a Greek island and is about to get married. Like every good daughter - she wants her father to walk her down the aisle, and give her away to her groom. The problem is, she has never met her father and doesn't even know who he is.
But how could that be possible? The answer is her outgoing and independent mother called Donna. Donna had had several relationships before Sophie was born, and three of them overlapped. So she isn't sure who Sophie's real father is. And since, Sophie doesn't either, she invites all of them to her wedding, without telling her mother anything about it.
