Aldwych Theatre: A Spot That Has Made History!
Since its establishment, the Aldwych Theatre has been the seat of some rare, high-quality historical plays. In 1925, the Aldwych Theatre staged a series of twelves farces written by Ben Travers. These quickly gained popularity and critical acclaim and, even today, are known as “The Aldwych Farces.”
In 1949, another memorable production was staged at the Aldwych. This production, an adaptation of Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire, was directed by Laurence Olivier and received immense acclaim.
The Aldwych made history once more in 1960 when it became the seat of the Royal Shakespeare Company for a whopping 20 years. During their time at the Aldwych, the Royal Shakespeare Company produced hit numbers, including The Wars of the Roses, Nicholas Nickelby, The Greeks, etc.

The Aldwych Theatre can seat 1200 people in seats distributed across 3 levels. These levels are called the Stalls, Dress Circle, and the Grand Circle. According to visitors, Dress Circle has the most seats with a good view of the stage, but the other levels are a delight too.
